What is PRP?
PRP stands for platelet rich plasma. This procedure takes the essential growth factors from your blood to boost volume and improve the appearance of your skin.
Your body’s natural PRP holds more than eight essential growth elements that can reverse the signs of aging when activated. A small amount of blood is drawn and centrifuged to pull out the plasma.
What is plasma?
Plasma is a naturally occurring substance found in human blood cells. Plasma is made up of platelets, stem cells and growth factors that stimulate the body’s natural healing response.
Once the plasma is separated, Dr. Dham will insert the plasma into the skin using injections. Patients can opt to use a topical numbing agent for their optimal comfort.
Benefits of PRP
The PRP treatment uses the body’s natural anti-aging properties to regenerate cell growth and reverse the signs of aging. PRP benefits the tone, texture, and elasticity of the skin. PRP can:
- Reduce fine line and wrinkles
- Eliminate dark spots or discoloration
- Tighten and tone sagging skin
- Reduce appearance of acne scars
- Lighten rosacea
- Replace collagen and volume to face
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a cosmetic non-surgical treatment that uses a series of fine needles to create microtrauma to the skin. The tiny channels activate the body’s natural healing response helping to produce new collagen.
What is collagen?
Collagen helps promote skin elasticity for a more vibrant, fuller look. As we age our body naturally makes less collagen resulting in sagging skin or loss of volume in areas such as the cheeks.
Does microneedling treatment hurt?
Most patients report only a minor pinching feeling during microneedling treatment. Dr. Dham may apply a topical numbing agent for your optimal comfort.
How many microneedling treatments will I need?
Microneedling can be done in one treatment, or we may recommend that you return for multiple treatments depending on your goals and the condition of your skin. Most patients receive 4-8 microneedling sessions to achieve their optimal results.
Benefits of Microneedling
Microneedling can rejuvenate the appearance of the skin leaving you feeling fresh and vibrant. Microneedling is a preferred method for skin revitalization for its minimally invasive technique and impressive results.
- Add volume to the skin
- Improve the tone and texture of skin
- Reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
- Improves collagen production
- Reduces appearance of acne scars/burn scars
For many patients, Dr. Dham may recommend using microneedling in combination with PRP treatment. Micro-needling creates channels in the skin allowing the PRP to deeply penetrate for improved results. The use of PRP can enable faster healing and optimal results from the procedure.
Dr. Dham will complete the micro-needling treatment first. Once the blood is drawn and has been centrifuged, the PRP will be applied to the treated areas.
Post Treatment Care
Dr. Dham and our dental care team will provide each patient with personalized post-treatment care instructions. The skin may be sensitive after treatment and should be treated with gently while healing.
Typically, patients are asked to avoid direct exposure to the sun up to 7 days after treatment. Patients are required to wear sunblock when going out.
What is PRF?
PRF is a type of platelet therapy that incorporates fibrin mesh for slow release of growth factors. Like PRP, PRF uses the patient’s own blood to extract platelets rich with growth factors. The growth factors extracted from the patient’s blood are slowly released over time from the fibrin mesh and can help to accelerate healing of soft and hard tissues.
Benefits of PRF
PRF can help decrease the appearance of scars, acne scars, and speeds the healing of wounds. PRF is secured to a wound after treatment, sealing out infection and speeding the recovery process.
- Uses patients own blood
- Reduces risk of infection
- Speeds recovery
- No additives, chemicals or foreign substances
