The Dental Crown Process
For a dental crown going over an existing tooth, we’ll take an impression of your mouth with the Itero 3-D digital scanner. This allows us to get a detailed 3-D model of the tooth to make you a restoration that will fit comfortably in your mouth. The crown is fabricated from this model and matched to the size, shape, and color that you discussed.
Once the crown is fabricated, a final fitting will be done by Dr. Dham at our office. She’ll make sure that the crown is comfortable and looks the way you want it to. Once you’re happy with the restoration, it’ll be permanently bonded to your tooth.
For a dental crown as the final restoration, the implant process has to happen first. A titanium post is placed in the jawbone and has to heal for about 3-6 months. Then an abutment can be placed on top of the implant. This is then used to connect the titanium post to a dental crown.
